Re: TWAIN/WIA driver of Xerox WorkCentre 6515 is *not* professional

Thanks for your reply. I'll look into this image retriever approach. It appears to hamper any office workflow substantially -> walking to the scanner - fiddle with the LUI - walk back to your computer and have Paperport fetch some scan from some preconfigured folder. That's my current impression at least. It's better, though, than jettison the WorkCentre alltogether for the time being.

However, it should be clear to the community that at this time the WorkCentre 6515 is *not* recommendable for standard office applications, viz. scanning black and white documents.

I'll let you know what a call to support with respect to a FER will bring about.

xerox 7556 mono defaults

I am trying to change the printing and copying defaults to mono for our company. I have logged in as admin. Under services tab I can change printing defaults but the 'copy' tab isnt there like it is on newer copiers. Any ideas how to change copy defaults? It needs to be for everyone using machine not just one PC. Please help.

Odd since they very much should be there at the machine as well as in CWIS, so hopefully yours will allow the change at one of them at least.

As admin go to Machine Status > Tools > Service Settings > Copy Service

1.JPG

Feature Defaults

2.JPG

Then set the defaults and select Save Defaults

3.JPG

But it really should be doable in CWIS

The new machines from Xerox are Connectkey, VersaLink and AltaLink, which do it exactly the same way with exception to some option changes (Services becomes Apps)

Scan to folder, destination folder not on C:\

I have a problem where I'm trying to set the scan to to be a separate drive than the c:\ drive, and a different location than \. It needs to go to something like D:\Shared\Scanned Docs. I can get it to work on a test folder using C:\Test, but cannot get it go to the D drive destiantion. Any tips on how I can accomplish that/if it's even possible? Thanks!

The physical drive has absolutely no relevance with SMB.

If you right click on a folder and share it, the folder itself appears at the root of the SMB path.

Create a folder called scan on the c:\ drive, the actual path is c:\scan, now share it (path will be smb:\\PC-IP\scan)

Now put a folder called scan2 on d:\ and share it. (path will be smb:\\PC-IP\scan2)

Now hold down your Windows key and tap the letter R

Now in the Run prompt type \\192.168.1.12 (replace the IP with your own IP address for the PC)

You will get a new File explorer window opened that shows anything shared on the PC, like so:

1.JPG

Drive letters do not exist in SMB, nor do they matter, only the share does.

Brief update:  We cannot afford to procure a new server at this time.  We have filed a grant for funding but that will be months down the road.  In addition to the scanning problem in my initial post, we are now experiencing near continuous errors when printing and copying.  Every few pages churned out by the machine, it gives us a paper jam error; but there's never any paper jams.  We have to open the trays and access points and close them again.  Then it prints two more pages.  Then it throws an error.  Repeat ad nausem.  We also applied for funding to buy a new office Printer/Scanner/Copier.  It may not be a Xerox.  But until then, we suffer and our resentment grows.  The team is already planning an Office-Space-like comeuppance for our Xerox.

Hi,

Try this:

Not booting up with message "Communication Error"

Unplug HDD then power up.   If it boots now and gives you a configuration error - select ignore and it will boot up ready to print.  You will not have network scanning, but will print from network.  It will receive faxes ,but will have limited sending memory:
  1. Try a Memory Clear, then reconnect HDD to test.
  2. Possible formatting of the HDD but replacement will bring the machine back to full operation.  Normally we would save info, but in this case it wouldn't be possible, before replacement/format of HDD do a clone, backup FAX phone book and EMAIL address book to save data bases - these are in memory but with HDD replacement these are all lost when booting with the 'new' hard drive.

Intermittent failure to scan to PC

Hi folks,

I'm in a bit of a pickle here. In the company i work for, we have a few FujiXerox MFP of different versions in each department. One particular issue that kept creeping up is scanning to PC failure.

The error code: 027-516: Server Connection error in SMB

Action taken:

1. I've created a folder called "scan" on the root of the drive ( C:\scan)

2. I created an account called "xerox" with full access rights to that PC

3. I force SMB using powershell.

   (Set-ItemProperty -Path "HKLM:\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters" SMB1 -Type DWORD -Value 1 –Force)

Behavior post action taken:

1. The users were able to scan to PC throughout the first week after the steps taken above. Then the week after that it doesn't work again. The worse part, is that it hasn't come back since.

A little backstory, the particular floor with that issue is congested and due to HW limitation (switches) , there are times where we had to reboot the switch to get some of the traffic moving.

I'm have an inkling feeling that the root of the issue could be network congestion. I'm not sure. my network skill level is novice i would say.

Therefore, i acquire your help to assist me in finding a solution. The users are complaining and my boss made me make this my first priority.

Cheers

When multiple clients all stop accessing a single server, it really isn't likely that the clients (printers) are the problem.

Typically 027-516 means an unsupported SMB type, typically caused by using port 445 on a device that uses Netbios over TCP/IP (uses port 139).

But since the server appears to be the issue, it would imply the smb change you made to re-enable SMBv1 (required since your devices likely can't do SMBv2-3) got over-ridden by another Windows patch (This is going to happen again and again so it probably isn't worth the hassle)

Short version and the best workaround is to simply enable FTP server side using the same exact folder, then  switch the printers to use the FTP path/user.

This way Microsoft won't change things on you, and the shares that exist can still be accessed by any client PC's (So if you have the folders mapped on client PC's, there won't be a workflow interruptions there)

Even though there may be two fax ports the device may not have the 2-line fax card? Worth checking. As can get 1-line or 2-line cards

Workcentre 7225 - Color-scanned image has a blue layer over it

$

Hello, can anyone help me with this issue? The scanned images always have a blue layer if scanned in color and sometimes a greyish one if in black & white (or in gray scale). I tried everything in vein, from changing contract/brightness to cleaning the glass etc. The attached is a scanned white paper and as you see, it's all in blue... When the original doc has some text, you see it under the blue layer... As the workcentre 7225 doesn't allow white-balance tuning/calibration by users, I don't know what else to do...

Hi,

There is a calibration mode in Tools/Troubleshooting, but it is recommended to be done after cleaning the entire optical system (under the glass). And if this not solve your issue, maybe it is needed to upgrade system software, or to verify NVM, or even replacing the IIT PWB.

You could also call the number for line 2 and verify if it picks up, then turn on the fax sounds and send a fax on line 2 to see if it can.

Fax volume is Machine Status > Tools > System Settings > Common Service Settings > Audio Tones > Line Monitor Volume

Go to your folder box and delete all created folders

Go to work flow, delete all workflows.

Recreate the folders and works and you are good to go

Does the 3325 support SMBv2?

Currently using firmware V51.007.00.000, but the machines are not able to connect to the server. I suspect the machine is trying to authenticate with SMBv1. Is there a spar available to rectify this?

It does not and there isn't a spar to make it do so.

You will need to switch to FTP

Company moved to new building now email function wont work.

Greetings,

The company i work for recently relocated. Before we moved we took our domain controlers, file and printer servers and moved them offsite and set them up. They are VPN'd into the system so it was as if the servers never where removed.

Then when we moved we removed all of our switches and took them with us. At the new location we reconnected our switches to the already wired patch panels. Pointed the servers to the new ISP's equipment and brought our servers back online with our network with no other changes.

When we connected the first Xerox 7225. Within a few moments the file and printer server sees the printer then the printer on the laptops that were installed VIA group policy showed up. Everyone can print to the printer just fine. This means that the file and printer server is working fine and the printer is on our network.

However, if you try to use the e-mail function you get an error that if cannot because the host name is not valid.

I browsed to the SMTP settings and the host name is here and there are no errors.

I researched a bit and found something about the ip settings so I checked and in the DNS section the requested host name is filled out and so is the requested domain name. They have not changed. But under the varified host name and verified domain name they both show they could not be verified.

I removed them and retyped them and saved the settings but it still not working. Any help or advise would be appreciated.

WorkCenter 7855 colour accuracy issues when printing

I have printed a Word text document that I have revised and the blue colour titles are not the same colour than the first printing I had made of the document some time ago.

I wonder if there is a real problem or if the machine just needs a good clean up. Thanks.

Word doesn't handle color properly.

Different drivers will output drastically different color (PS vs PCL)

The stock may be different, or loaded incorrectly (cardstock instead of plain etc)

Machine is out of calibration (Machine status > Tools > Troubleshooting > Calibration)
