My second screenshot shows the ownership and shows what to do with it.

If you have a service contract just call Xerox again.

Unortunately, neither of these worked. I will be sure to update the post once the technician comes. Thanks all!

AltaLink Scans Are Black

I should clarify that almost all paper that I scan show up fine.

I have a document or two though that whenever I scan to myself, or more importantly "fax" to an efax e-mail address it shows up all black or will have little black squares in various parts of the scan if that makes any sort of sense...

We hit up our efax vendor and they recommended adjusting the scan setting on the Xerox machine to black and white (it had been on auto before that) but that doesn't seem to make a difference.

I've got a Lexmark MFP that I can scan the document fine on.

Our Xerox vendor is scratching their heads at the moment so I ask you, Xerox support.  What should I do?

Short Version: I have a particular document that for whatever reason turns out black when I scan it on 5 different Xerox machines.  One is even an older Fuji based Xerox that's a totally different model from an Alta.

OK, To be clear here.

You have multiple Xerox devices and one FujiXerox that all have the same problem even though the FX and Alta have no common traits, are made entirely independent of each other and run firmwares developed in different parts of the world.

And it can happen even when eFax plays no part, so a scan to SMB/EMail/FTP/USB will all show the same issue making eFax not a worthwhile thing to troubleshoot.

And the Lexmark works fine with the same job via eFax.

That should make it real easy to test then, reply with a pdf I can print that will have the problem when scanned, as well as a scanned Configuration report from one of the AltaLinks and I will do a scan to see the issue for myself and troubleshoot the problem in-house at the Xerox lab.

No way!

Updated to latest firmware, set IP instead of HostName, checked date and time but still same error.

I even tried to connect directly Mac and C405 with no success... Maybe I'm missing an other setting?

There is one thing to try on the printer, and if that fails, 1 thing to try on the Mac, although the Mac fix should already have been done to make the 6605 work since it is older.

1. EWS > Connectivity > Ethernet > Common > Edit and change IP Mode to IPv4

2.

  1. Open the Terminal app, which is in the Utilities folder of your Applications folder.
  2. Type sudo /usr/libexec/configureLocalKDCand press Return.
  3. Enter your administrator password and press Return.
  4. Quit the Terminal app.

I see where I can upload an image here but not a regular attachment like a .pdf.
What's the best way to get this example over to you Joe?
I suppose I can always e-mail worst case if you tell me where to send it.

Edit: Sent you a PM Joe.

Printed your file on a 7970 and scanned it on a B8055 (don't have a 65 to use but they are the same device clocked to diferent speeds)

1.Scanned at the 8055 with default scan settings and I don't see the boxes, but the quality is terrible due to using default settings (XeroxTechGuy.pdf)

2. Same scan done again with the text searchable, still no black boxes, which got me thinking, because if there was handwriting on the pages, OCR/searchable will trip and fall all over the place and can cause massive weird issues. You never mentioned it, so maybe I am jumping at shadows there. (XTGocr.pdf)

Your 2nd file can't be retrieved, not sure where it stalled

Capture.JPG

Possibly related, your firmware is quite old, but since a FujiXerox also has the issue it may not be an issue, having said that, I would still update it.

Pretty sure your 2nd DNS server isn't right since it shows a 192.168.x.x address when the machine is on a 10.40.x.x LAN

Server Fax/Embedded Fax/Internet Fax are all disabled on the MFP, are you using Scan To Email for the job you are having the issue with?

-I could see this being an issue.  They definitely handwrite all over this thing and it seems like the issue was on pages with a lot of handwriting on them.  Possible to disable OCR on this puppy to see?

-Don't worry too much about the second document.  First one that you were able to get seems to be where the bulk of the problem resides.  I suspect if I get that one resolved the other will be resolved as well.

-I'll update the firmware first chance I get on a few of these machines and see what that will do.

-I know what you're saying about the DNS but our network engineer assures me it's correct.  We've been using this scheme for years on all our stuff.

Weird.

That's how mine is setup.

However, I found some interesting info under the compression tab on e-mail setup.

Flate Compression & MRC Compression.

Under Flate Compression there's a box checked that says Enable for Searchable Text.

I'm going to uncheck that and disable MRC compression (vendor recommended just now).

Will report back.

AltaLink B8075 Scan to Email through Proxy?

Trying to configure some AltaLinks to scan to email. HTTP access is via a proxy server, which has been configured, but will the SMTP traffic use the proxy to get out? It doesn't appear so.

normally if you change the machine language , fax reports are also printed in that language

although there seems to be a bug pressent, that doesnt change the NVM value

it can be fixed by changing the NVM manually :

NVM Location 200-044

Set 200-044 to:

0 = FrenchCanadian

1 = English

2 = Danish

3 = Swedish
4 = InternationalSpanish

5 = German

6 = Italian

7 = USEnglish

8 = Dutch

9 = Portuguese

10 = Norwegian

11 = Finnish

12 = French

13 = Brazilian

14 = Greek

15 = Czech

16 = Polish

17 = Hungarian,
18 = Romanian

19 = Turkish

20 = Russian

21 = SimplifiedChinese,

I cannot understand why something as simple as scanning to your PC, which we have been doing easily since the 1990's, all of a sudden requires an IT degree to be able to setup on a 2017 model?

Re: Setting up C405 scan to pc

How do you first get to the SMB Screen you are showing?  It would be great if directions included the steps of where to first go to solve or troubleshoot a problem?  I am so frustrated that this unit is so difficult to setup?  The GUI and software for this unit is like a throw back to something from the 1980's.

My SMB screen under the Connectivity Tab, looks like this below, so I can not even attempt to replicate your fix for this most simple, basic need, scanning to a computer.

Port

WINS Server Address Acquisition by DHCP

Primary WINS Server Address

Secondary WINS Server Address

 80% of the setup isn't Xerox, it is Apple/Microsoft/Linux etc etc. And yet, I covered every single step for the user with pictures for every step for their scenario, and they got it working from those steps without question.

As for where you put the info on the Xerox portion, EWS > Address Book > Add Contact > Network (SMB)

If you have some special issue unlike what is posted in a thread, start a new one, name your specifics and kindly ask for help, adding to a solved thread with nothing but complaints does nothing for anyone but make it harder for the person who needs help and is using the search to find a resolution to their issue to find it by just adding garbage data to sort through.

If you think you are more capable than anyone else, go ahead and start helping people in threads that are not solved.

If you have a specific issue, be nice, start a thread, be polite and clearly describe what issue you have and maybe someone will help you.

If you are just looking to complain, feel free to do so, just don't expect a great outpouring of kindness and help in the end.

Re: AltaLink B8075 Scan to Email through Proxy?

Depends where you set the Proxy.

If you do it in EWS > Properties > General Setup > Extensible Services Setup > Proxy Server it may not unless you are using the Xerox App Gallery email app (Scan To Cloud Email)

1.JPG

If you set it via EWS > Properties > Connectivity > Setup > Proxy Server > Edit it should apply to anything that is not from the App Gallery or App Studio.

2.JPG

And yes, I realize email is not listed at the bottom of the next page, but the Xerox test LAN requires a Proxy so we can't email via Gmail/Office365/Godaddy etc until we enter the proxy on the device via this screen. It applies to NTP too and that isn't listed either.

25.JPG

If your firmware is up to date and you know how to use Wireshark,

then you can have the printer do a network trace when you attempt the scan, then save it and open it to see exactly what is happening on the LAN and exactly what servers/IP etc are being involved as well as what the responses are at each step.
