Re: Office 365 with Versalink

Hi Joe,

it seems the problem comes with the current Firmware 68.10.91 !!

Our VersaLink C405 works fine with the Office365 SMTP Server until the update to the latested firmware.

So we need a fix or i have to make a downgrade if this is possible.

Kind Regards

Andreas

My 3210 has suddenly starting printing 1cm thick black bands while printing. This is occuring from all prining i.e. scans, direct prints and test printing. What is the cause and can it be fixed?

A fix would be yet another spar, which I cannot do here on the forum (I'm not officially here, I just try to keep my skills sharp and find out issues before I have to handle them at my *real* job which is 2nd level support) So you would need to call it in.

A downgrade can be done, but unlike the Connectkey family, Versalink can't just downgrade, you lose settings, and after looking up the method to do so in the service manual, there is just no way I can post it here on the forum without risking more than I'm willing. Sorry. Tech would be needed it seems.

*****************************************************************************************************************************************************

I looked at the release notes for the 2 versions, and it is indeed true, fixes from the older are not in the newer. Which is something that has happened previously, and I will now explain why it happens occasionally.

There are 2 types of release, these are

  1. General releases
  2. Spar Releases

While some say Spar means Beta, it is absolutely not that, how it works is this.

A General release is tested quite thoroughly for stability, it is tested for months and everything is thrown at it, but that in no way means they test every feature itself, Say they test making a Booklet, they may test that it can make when on Tabloid, but they may not test it for every paper size, and every single submission method etc etc. It is stability testing, as in "Did it crash or print the book?". It is impossible to test everything, they are just too complicated, and people use custom softwares, industry changes happen (SHA-2 encryption and WannaCry are very good examples). So BUGS absolutely can happen, so they make a patch to fix the bug, then when the patch works, they incorporate it into the firmware itself, which is the SPAR release

The Spar release is the General release with the patch added. So, to use the SHA-2 example, all the SMTP servers were upgraded about 2 years ago to use SHA-2, but almost all our printers used and supported just SHA-1, so when the rollover happened, the printers all just stopped, and most of them would display the Generic " I have no idea what the server just said to my login name attempt, but it sure wasn't a language I know, and it won't let me try my password" code (017-714). So Xerox created a patch, tested it worked, rolled it into the firmware, tested that it still worked for email, but did not necessarily make sure that printing a booklet would still work the same, because they never touched the print engine, they don't need to, It isn't impossible that the book code got pooched, but it sure isn't likely either.

So General can gets months of testing, and spars can get hours/weeks, because they just test what has been changed.

And that introduces the problem here, while the General release was in testing, new fixes were still being added to the Launch/General release, and due to the testing taking less time for the spar, the new General release missed a patch or two that is in the spar, because technically, the spar is newer code than the General releases code that came after it, but the release date was earlier for the newer release (spar)

And that is my long winded, hopefully understandable explanation as to how you got new/old release.

Re: WorkCentre 3335 Scan to SMB without creation an file folder

1. I create an user account with SMB scan. Create a file prefix like "image". Select JPG format and scan to smb folder. Then i open SMB-folder ind find sub-folder like "image.XSM". Next scan created sub-folder "image000.XSM"....Why? I don't like this!

Anything done as a single page file format creates a folder to put it in, not sure why, and the Samsung controller has no way around that.

- No good, but OK

2. Why i can't to use cyrillic fonts in CMB-path?

You would likely need to ask in a Country where they would be used, this is an English only forum based in North America. I would expect it to fail immediately on anything I could test on since the firmware would not be Russian and could not be expected to understand the letters.

- Huh....

3. Then i create user_account and select them, i make scan. How i can select another user_account for another  scan? In a scan dialogue i can see only "add recipient..." & previous user_account...

I don't quite understand this question, I would think you just pick another Scan to entry from the address book, because as far as I know, the device can't do scan to home (I may be wrong) so there would be no difference in where the scan goes due to the person who was logged in to the copier itself.

- My solution: Properties - Services - ScanTo... - Security - Clear Recipient List After Job Completes? "YES".  Thats all...  Then  you finish scan-work with first user, you will select a new user from favorites or addresbook

Thnx Joe!

Versalink B405 scan to home setup

Hi,

trying to setup scan to home on a B405.  In the old Xerox WorkCentre, we had the option of no LDAP query or LDAP query under Scantohome-->general.  If you selected no LDAP query you could define a custom network path for the user appended by their account name.

On this B405 by default the Scan To is going to the home attribute of their AD account, which is a path we use for something else.  How do I set a custom home destination path in this new web interface?  I see no place to do this.

Thank you,

It isn't there. The option you want is available on Xerox Connectkey and AltaLink family printers, but not on anything FujiXerox/VersaLink family.

VersaLink also can't do Workflow scanning via a repository, if it did, you could simply have the Scan to Home location set as a repository, with template pointing to the user folder via their login.

The front of the DADF on a new Alta Link 8035 doesn't close completely. I know there was a latch inovator kit on the WC7845s. Wondering if there will be the same for this.

Although when I used the latch bracket on a WC7845 it worked so poorly I had to go ahead and replace the door anyway.

There are no directions for creating an address book on a workcentre 3215. Please, can someone help. I've tried calling in for help and looking on internet too but no help. I know how to scan and scan an email but can not figure out how to save most used email addresses to the printer. Is there a way to transerfer addresses from computer to a printer address book?

Thanks, Carol

Xerox support couldn't tell you to push Email > Address book and then scroll down to New & Edit?

Or you can do the same in CWIS (printers built in web page) by selecting Address Book > Add

The User guide that came with the printer has a whole chapter on the Address book (Chapter 9, page 183 is the start), If it got thrown out, it is freely available on Xerox.com here

It's also the first thing in the Online support assistant if you type address and hit enter

AltaLink B8000 and C8000 series Edoc's

I recently finished training on these products and I'm having a difficult time finding a regular edoc to download for each of them.

I located a .pdf version for the B8000 series in GSN and I've downloaded it to use for down, but I want the normal EDOC for both products so that they will update thru the BUS.

I have looked everywhere I can think of in GSN and even searched in MAPS.

These do not download from the training module, although it says they can be ordered.

Hello,

I've been trying to find a solution for 2 days now, and I tought someone can help me with setting up the network scanner.

My company bought a new laptop with Windows 10.

I installed succesfully the printer via network.

I tried to get it work the Network Scanner program, but it does not find the scanner on the network.

I treied the followings:

- downloaded and installed Network Scan program

- added firewall exeption for Network Scan program

- downloaded the scan driver, extracted the zip file

- add new device in Windows 10, and browsed to the extracted folder - >  NO LUCK WITH THIS METHOD

- downloaded printer and scanner driver for Windows 7, and installed it succesfully - > STILL NOT FIOUND THE SCANNER ON THE NETWORK

On the local metwork there are 5 other laptops with Windows 7 that are scanning fine vith Network Scan program.

I treid to ping the printer from Win10 laptop and there is a connection, printing is working fine.

What should I try to get it working.

Where in the directions for scan does your setup differ from the following:

  1. Click on the [Start] button, click on [Programs] or [All Programs], click on [Xerox], click on [Network Scan], and then click on [Network Scan] again. The Xerox Network Scan Manager window will be displayed.
  2. Click on the [Add Device] button or double-click on the [Add Device] icon. The Add Device Wizard window will be displayed.
  3. Click on the [Next] button. The Specify a Network Scanner window will be displayed.
  4. Select [Browse for a scanner (recommended)], or select [Connect to this scanner] and enter the IP address of the machine. If the Network Scan program is unable to find the machine on the network, verify that the machine can communicate with the computer that the Network Scan program is installed on.  Try to ping the machine from the computer.

NOTE: Below are examples of network configurations that could block the discovery of the machine by the Network Scan program. Contact your Network or System Administrator for assistance if it is found that any of these configurations are preventing the installation of the machine.
    • Third party Firewalls/Antivirus (either physical hardware or software) programs installed on the computer (blocking SNMP traffic or connections to other IP devices).
    • The machine is on a different network than the computer is currently connected to (for example, the printer has a 192.168.1.x address and the computer has a 192.168.2.x address).
    • The computer is using a VPN (Virtual Private Network) connection to work from a remote office to a large corporation/company. (If you are running a VPN connection on your computer, save all open work, disconnect from the VPN and try to add the machine again to the Network Scan program.)

  5. Click on the [Next] button. A list of available scanners on the network will be displayed.
  6. Select the required scanner from the list.
  7. Enter a name for the scanner in the Network Scanner Name field. By default the name is automatically populated; however, this name can be modified.
  8. Enter a User ID in the ID field.

NOTE: Up to eight characters can be entered for the User ID. The first character of the User ID must be a letter.

  9. Enter a four-digit Personal Identification Number (PIN) in the PIN field. If you do not want to be prompted for a PIN when Scanning to a Network Client at the machine's Control Panel, enter 0000 in the PIN field.
  10. Enter the PIN again in the Confirm PIN field.
  11. Click on the [Next] button. The Congratulations window will be displayed.
  12. Click on the [Finish] button. The machine will be added to the Network Scan program.

Configure the Network Scan Program Defaults

  1. If the Network Scan program is not already open on the computer, perform the following:
    • Click on the [Start] button.
    • Click on [Programs] or [All Programs].
    • Click on [Xerox Network Printer Utilities].
    • Click on [Network Scan].
    • Click on [Network Scan] again. The Xerox Network Scan Manager window will be displayed.
  2. Click on [Xerox WorkCentre 3210] or [Xerox WorkCentre 3220], and then click on the [Preferences] tab.

    Network Scan Manager preferences

The Following options are available in the Network Scan program:
    • The Destinations section on the right lists what will be available from the WorkCentre 3210/WorkCentre 3220.

NOTE: "My Documents" cannot be removed but its destination (Save Location) can be changed.
      1. Click on [Add User Folder], and then click the [right arrow].
      2. Click on the folder icon on the right to add a Folder Location. Give it a name that will be seen from the Display Screen on the WorkCentre 3210/WorkCentre 3220.
      3. Click on [OK].
      4. Modify the default scan properties, if necessary.
      5. Repeat steps a - e for all folders required.

    • Save Location:  Select the folder under you wish to modify under Destinations first followed by clicking on the [Folder] icon to the right of Save Location to browse to new location.  Select the new folder, and then click on [OK].
    • Scan Size:
      • Letter (8.5 x 11 in.) - default
      • Legal (8.5 x 11 in.)
      • Statement (5.5 x 8.5 in.)
      • A4 (210 x 297 mm)
      • A5 (148 x 210 mm)
      • B5 (182 x 257 mm)
    • Scan Color:
      • Black and White - default
      • Grayscale
      • True Color
    • Resolution:
      • 100 dpi
      • 200 dpi – default

Thanks for the detailed instructions, but I stuck at the beginning.

The Network Scan program does not find the network scanner.

I can ping the scanner without any problem, I can print, but Network Scan does not find it.

I disabled firewall and antivirus too, but no luck.

I have VmWare installed before I installed Workcenter, if it means something.

This article Microsoft Offers More Advice on Disabling Windows SMB 1  on May 18, 2017 at https://redmondmag.com/articles/2017/05/18/more-advice-on-disabling-windows-smb-1.aspx contains Microsoft advice that SMB-1 be disabled as it has been used in ransomware outbreaks.

In the article it notes the adverse impact on scanning to network share folders -

According to Pyle, the only reasons to continue to use SMB 1 include:

  • You're still running XP or WS2003 under a custom support agreement.
  • You have some decrepit management software that demands admins browse via the 'network neighborhood' master browser list.
  • You run old multi-function printers with antique firmware in order to "scan to share."

I had been scanning to a share folder successfully for 2-3 years.

After installing a Windows 10 update last week, I now consistently get "031-530 SMB path error" when trying to scan from my Fuji Xerox DocuPrint M255 multifunction printer.

Scanning initiated from a twain driver on my PC is still working.
