The code indicates no connection to an SMB service at the IP address it is scanning to (Or host name)

So, check the scanning setup and confirm the IP/Hostname is still valid for the device the scan is going to.

Assuming Windows, click the start menu and in the search field type \\192.168.1.100 <replace with your scan to IP>

You should get a window showing all folders available for scan to PC (If you are prompted to login, make sure you use whatever the login is set to for the printer). Verify that whatever share is setup in the printer is visible at this point, if it is not, you have your problem found.

It could also be the port is wrong, generically speaking , SMB is done on port 139 up to Windows Vista, and then it is 445 for Windows 7 and up.

Dear Joe.

Thank you for your answer, it helped.

Profiles for scanning are created now.

New problem we face now is: punctuation marks in Slovak language.

Xerox allowed us to create such profiles, but is unable to read them and upload to device display. Device is trying to upload new profiles, but stays frozen.

The profiles with Slovak grammar are unable to delete so we was forced to disable "Workflow scanning" module to keep the machine running.

Can you advice how to delete single or all profiles?

Thank you in advance.

Paul.

Workflow Scanning jobs keep getting deleted

Device: WC7845 Firmware: 073.040.075.34540 We have recently upgraded the FW on this device and when attempting use the workflow scanning it deletes the jobs rather than sending them to the relevent location on the network. This will happen to single page documents and multipage documents. Currently its set to scan at 300dpi. The only way the workflow scanning will be successfull if when i set it to 72dpi which is no good as the quality of extremely poor It's almost as the device does not have the memory to process the jobs. We have several identical devices with same firmware which work fine.

the message is get is Failure Transfering Job to network server. The strange thing is, if i get some sheets of A4 and write in pen a number on the page, this will scan fine, even 6 or 7 pages at a time.

Dear Joe.

Thank you for your solution, it helped as well as Fabio´s.

Scanning profiles are created now.

We face next problem now. After profiles creation with Slovak punctuation marks, device is unable to update scanning profiles and stays frozen.

To get Xerox device back to work we had to deactivate "Workflow scanning" module.

Please can you help how to delete single or all scanning profiles? I would like to mention that standard funcion "Delete" doesn´t work. It behave that profile is deleted, but is not. Profiles with punctuation marks stays undelete.

Any help?

Thanks in advance, Paul.

PS: Can you see attached pictures? I can see them only when I am logged in.

yes, you corrupted the machine :( , its indeed a bug in an earlier firrmware

best way is to altboot the machine with the disable_data_backup flag

xerox can help you witth that

that makes some kind of factory default of the machine

what you can do is clone the machine first, but no scanning templates offcourse, after altboot , restore the clone file

can you maybe make a clone from a working machine? and restore it to the non working machine?

best practice is to make clone files and restore it to machines with the same firmware level

Good Morning, sorry for my bad english...

In my office i use a Xerox WC 7228 witch my PC with Windows 10.

I tried to set up the printer to scan in a folden on my PC, but not working.

There is a step by step guide to successfully configure the Xerox? I try several times but I can't get it started.

Thank so much

Before going through the altboot method I would suggest updating to the latest firmware to see if it just automagically resolves it without data loss and having to call in a tech.

After the update, Clone it ,if you still can't move on, do an erase customer data , restore via clone like stated by Fabio (Not the scanning stuff obviously)

If you still can't move on, the Altboot, no data backup, no clone method would be required. If you get to that point , send me a PM referencing this post.

Put folder on root of C:\ drive, right-click and choose Properties

Select Sharing > Share and add the user account the printer will be using and change the dropdown for that account to Read/Write

1.gif

Click Share > Done

Now select Advanced Sharing > Permissions > Add and add the same account as above,< highlight the user and take note of the username format within the brackets, that is exactly how the login name will be entered in the printers scan setup>,then check the box for Full Control > Apply > OK > OK > Close

2.gif

Then, to set up a template on the printer go to CWIS > Scan > Create New Template and fill it in

3.gif

Things to note:

If the username in use does not have a password, I highly suggest making an account that does on the PC, Windows is fine when you don't have a password, but it is not typically fine when you are running a modified Linux (The printer) and accessing the Windows PC across a LAN connection as opposed to physically.

If you don't know your PC's IP address, click on the start menu and type cmd and hit enter

In the new window type ipconfig and hit the enter key.

you need the ipv4 address in amongst all the shown data.

The last firmware for this machine was released in 2008, it is likely that it can't in fact scan to Windows 10 as it very likely cannot do SMBv3. If that is the case, after all above is completed, you would need to change Windows 10 to work with SMBv1

I don't have a 7228 on hand, so the screenshots here have all the right info, though they may be slightly shifted in placement.

WC 3655 Scan to email error (Invalid Hostname)

I have 2 WC 3655s, just one of them is presenting problems with scan to email option. I think that I already tried everything to solved it, but it keep showing the error message "Invalid Hostname" For example:

  • I initialized the nvm network and copier controller.
  • Upgraded from 072.060.165.14201 to 073... firmware version. I tried it because the WC 3655 that has the email working had that version, however it didnt make any difference.
  • Both workcentres have the same SMTP configuration (SMTP Server, Port, Email Address, Authentication, Encryption, etc.) using Office 365. I tried with Gmail, same "Invalid Hostname".
  • Exchanged IP addresses and Hostnames of both devices, hoping that it was a network issue, same "Invalid Hostname".
  • I did a cloning from the WC 3655 that is working to the other one, same error.
  • I didnt have problems with scan to mailboxes, only with scan to email.

What could be the problem? Network Card or something from hardware??? Is the software from device corrupted?

Complete Error Message: "Job error. No message is sent. Network configuration error device (invalid host name). Contact your System Administrator."

Thanks to both of you, Fabio & Joe.

First we will update the firmware than if needed, factory reset.

I will inform you how we proceeded this issue.

job deleted due to system image error

I have a workcentre 7845. During workflow scanning, using different sized originals, 2 to 2 sided, it will sometimes delete the job and in the job log under details it says job deleted due to system image error. Does anybody know why it is doing this or what a fix would be?

Thanks.

Sounds more like a DNS failure than an SMTP issue.

Check the date and time as well as the DNS setup, it is almost certainly in those 2 places you will find the problem.

The message usually implies it ran out of memory, but that would typically be scanning to a mailbox, it shouldn't happen on Scan to Network (SMB or FTP).

First step would be to update it to the latest firmware here. Once completed, wait for it to happen again, if it does, come back here and update the post with:

1. How many pages was the job

2. Is OCR enabled

3. Firmware version

4. SMB/FTP/Email or Mailbox

5. Have you run the Secure Disk Image Overwrite

can I scan to booklet 7845

Hi - I can figure out how to copy a book so that the book can be spread out on the glass and each page copied on a seperate piece of paper. I would like to do this only with scan, so that each page of the book is scanned to it's own page in a pdf file. Is this possible?

Thanks!
