WC3220 - cannot scan to pdf

We have SEVERAL Xerox printers in our office, but the most often used are usually one of our five WC3220 MFC units, since these are the only units we own that can (or at least ONCE upon a time, did...) 'scan-to-PC' where we could then choose an option to save the scanned image as a 'pdf'' document...

However, ever since we've had to 'migrate' to Windows 10 (from a mixture of Win7 and Win 8 systems) one-by-one, certain PCs could no longer scan to a network connected PC and have a pdf 'reader' application automatically open and display the document...

We have a mixture of 'reader' software installed on many of the PCs, such as Adobe Acrobat 11, Adobe Acrobat DC, or things like Nuance PDF Pro Office, etc., but it didn't really matter which PC was running which software - it usually 'just worked'...   That is,  until about two weeks ago, I'd guess.  At any given time, any of the chosen applications COULD work, but as I mentioned, this has continued to 'fall away', until finally now our very last PC has now lost the ability to scan-to-PC and have a pdf software automatically open and display the scanned document.  That's not to say 'scan-to-PC' does not work at all... We CAN scan to MS Word, and it will automatically open Word, (where we can then "save as..." a PDF document), but why has it suddenly changed AWAY from anything related to a PDF software like Adobe Acrobat or practically anything else..?

I've tried just about everything I can think of, like removing and re-installing any of these PDF reader applications, or removing and re-installing the WC3220 software (which, BTW,  I had to download directly from Xerox since the CD disks that came with any of these AIO units apparently won't install under Windows 10, now, so NOW we no longer have access to software applications like Omnipage, PaperPort, etc.),

But I'm at my 'wit's end' trying to get any of this to work again...  No matter what I try, no one can scan to a network connected PC and have a 'PDF reader' app automtically open...

I guess I should also note that when I check the 'task manager' in any given PC when we've tried to scan to a PDF app, it would APPEAR that the app IS running (IE: Adobe Reader, etc.), but it just does not appear on the screen.  If it is of any 'clue', when I then try to open another PDF without 'ending task' on the running reader software, the PDF I'd just tried to  open ALSO will not appear.  IF, on the other hand, I DO 'end task' on the app (like Adobe Reader) it opens as expected...  (say what..??!?!)

GAH!  I'm ripping what's left of all my hair out..!!

But I sure wish we could've just stayed with Windows 7... Windows 10 is seemingly full of such 'issues'... but this one is driving me nuts.

Hi Joe,

thank you!

We tried to create a new user account with administrative privileges and from that account it works.

Now the question is: as we don't want to transfer all settings and documents to the new user account, how can we fix the "old" user account in order to use Easy Printer manager properly?

Thank you

Our Xerox 7556 has suddenly decided not to use the address we have chosen to scan to but choses one of its own!

If we select a name/address, it displays another one off the list and not the one chosen. Anyone else had this problem and how do I sort it. TIA

Any assistance is appreciated.

So if you have Nuance software does Image retriever notify you that the scan is completed?

In Windows 10, what is the default app for opening PDF? You can check by using Default Apps in Windows 10, if you just blindly updated to Windows 10 and chose to Use Express Settingsthen all your defaults would have been replaced with the MS supported way. And in this case, pdf would be opening in Microsoft Edge which won't work.

Here is the lowest versions Nuance supports for Windows 10 and pdf.

Have you used Nuance's forum? Since your issue is their software they would likely be better equipped to handle the issue. I know they don't officially support Windows 8.1 or higher last I checked, but you used to be able to just install their stuff in Compatability Mode = Windows 7

Likely that the old account is local and the new one is cloud, either way you need to Verify the user, and then compare settings in the Windows Control Panel > Users.

You may be able to run the program as the new user from within the old user. To do this , hold the Shift key down and right click the programs shortcut, you will get an option for Run as a different User assuming the user in question has the rights.

At the printer just go to Machine Status > Tools > Setup > Add Address Book entry

Click the entry you want to delete and choose Create /Delete

Of course you need to be logged in as the admin to do so.

Sounds like it is just using the email of whomever it last sent to, but if you are telling it to scan to Jeff@fakemaildomain.com and hitting send, but Gordan@yourcompany.com is getting it, I would have Xerox send a tech and wipe the device immediately and then set it up from scratch.

But if it just populates the last email you actually chose, just turn off that feature.

Properties > Services > Email > Setup > Security

Or the screen is simply uncalibrated so that the touch points are slightly off, in that case it would be picking the entry above or below the one you choose, if that is the case,  get a tech to diagnose/calibrate the touch panel.

You want ECM mode on, not off (it stands for Error Correct Mode)

When ECM is set to On, the printer attempts to correct errors in the fax transmission caused by problems such as a noisy telephone line.

The fax modem is 33.6kbps only (Page 257)

There are no scan drivers of any sort for the CQ8900. (At least where a Mac is in use)

Scan is done via SMB or FTP.

Create a Folder called scans in the documents folder and share it with Read & Write Access for my user - labuser

Create a path called Scanned_Stuff within scans and shared it as well.

I provided a screen capture below showing the setup and scans that I have scanned to it.

Here is a screen capture of how I have my file repository setup on the printer to scan to these folders.

Put folder on root of C:\ drive, right-click and choose Properties

Select Sharing > Share and add the user account the printer will be using and change the dropdown for that account to Read/Write

1.gif

Click Share > Done<If you want scans to go to the desktop, right-click the folder and select Send to > Desktop (Create shortcut) >

Now select Advanced Sharing > Permissions > Add and add the same account as above,< highlight the user and take note of the username format within the brackets, that is exactly how the login name will be entered in the printers scan setup>,then check the box for Full Control > Apply > OK > OK > Close

 2.gif

Then, to set up a template on the printer go to CWIS > Scan > Create New Template and fill it in

3.gif

Things to note:

If the username in use does not have a password, I highly suggest making an account that does on the PC, Windows is fine when you don't have a password, but it is not typically fine when you are running a modified Linux (The printer) and accessing the Windows PC across a LAN connection as opposed to physically.

If you don't know your PC's IP address, click on the start menu and type cmd and hit enter

In the new window type ipconfig and hit the enter key.

you need the ipv4 address in amongst all the shown data.

4.gif

If you are on the latest firmware, and still failing, it is likely that it can't in fact scan to Windows 10 as it very likely cannot do SMBv3. If that is the case, after all above is completed, you would need to change Windows 10 to work with SMBv1

Workcentre 7435 - error 005-913 insists

Hi!

Two days ago, when I was faxing, a paper jam occured in the fax/copy document feeder. I pulled out the jammed doc and later I turned off the machine. Today, I opened again my Xerox and the error for the jam is there again. I followed the instructions to fix the jam, but after some seconds the same error apears. There is no paper in the feeder.

How can I delete the error that insists?

Thanks

I am only able to send faxes and am not able to receive faxes what so ever. Whenever I try sending a fax it gives me a "RING_TO" error

You state you can send, and immediately say you get an error when you send.So can you send? Have you set the fax up at any point?

For the receiving:

Modify the Fax Receive Mode (Fax, Tel, or Ans / Fax)

  1. Press the [Fax] button on the Control Panel. "Ready to Fax" will be displayed on the Display Screen.
  2. Press the [Menu] button until "Fax Setup" is displayed.
  3. Press the [OK] button.
  4. Press the [Left] or [Right] arrow button until "Receiving" is displayed.
  5. Press the [OK] button. "Receive Mode" will be displayed.
  6. Press the [OK] button again.
  7. Press the [Left] or [Right] arrow button until the required Fax Reception Mode is displayed. The following options are available:
    • Fax - The machine will answer an incoming fax call and immediately go into the Fax reception mode.
    • Tel - A fax can be received by pressing [On Hook Dial], and then [Start]. You can also pick up the handset of the extension phone, and then enter the remote receive code.
    • Ans/Fax - An answering machine attached to the machine will answer an incoming call, and the caller can leave a message on the answering machine. If the fax machine detects a fax tone on the line, the machine will automatically switch to Fax mode to receive the fax.

NOTE: To use the Ans/Fax mode, attach an answering machine to the EXT socket on the back of the machine.

    • DRPD - A call can be received using the Distinctive Ring Pattern Detection (DRPD) feature. Distinctive Ring is a telephone company service which enables a user to use a single telephone line to answer several different telephone numbers.
  8. Press the [OK] button to save the selection.
  9. Press the [Stop / Clear] button to return to Ready mode.

NOTE: The fax machine must be connected to a dedicated analog fax line. Communications over a Digital Subscriber Line (DSL), Voice over IP (VOIP), or Fax over IP (FOIP) is not supported. There are no guarantees that the machine will work properly if filters or other devices are used to connect the machine to these types of systems

It is impossible, the machine does not retain anything of the job, it is wiped as soon as it prints.

Depending on the device in question, set up fax forwarding and you will have a digital file for all faxes received as well as the printed one conveniently stored in an email account or FTP/SMB share.
