As an example we created a User Name as 1234 and a Friendly name as User One in the User & Limits area under Accounting Methods. A password was never asked for nor entered. When the user walks up to make a copy the machine asks for the User ID - we enter 1234. The next screen asks for a Passcode. Why is this happening?

 

This happens in 2 scenarios, first is if you hit the physical login button (Yellow circle) instead of choosing the icon of the service that is setup in XSA (Red circle).

In the first, it will not be looking for an XSA account, it wants the admin and will have a Next button

And the 2nd one will say Accounting at the top left and be looking for the XSA account and there will be no

 Next button will just say Done.

You also need to make sure the users are all created within accounting in Properties > Login/Permissions/Accounting > Accounting Methods > Users and Limits

And not within Properties > Login/Permissions/Accounting > Device User database

Yes, they both reflect the users created in both places, no they are not actually the same and no I have no idea why it was decided this was a good way to design the interface.


Network Scanning on a WC5335

I need to install SMB scanning in an office where there is no network, and there is great security concern about people only being able to access their own scan folder.  On most Xerox models, you can create lots of templates pointed directy to each individual PC, but this model requires that a file repository exist before creating templates, however only allows for 4 file repositories to be created.

 

My question is, if I pick one computer (the administrator's for example to act as a server), and create a scans folder with sub-folders for each person, and then just create templates for each individual, placing a shortcut to THEIR folder on their desktop, won't those people technically still have access to the main shared scan folder and the other sub folders that are within it if they really wanted to by just going to the C drive and backing up out of their folder?  Or can I edit permissions for each sub-folder within the shared folder so that only that user has access? OR, will the limit be that only 4 people can scan given the security requirements?

 

ps- before anyone suggests scan to email, that's not an option.

Being that I actually support the Connectkey devices in my real job, and do so as 2nd level, believe me when I say the 073 releases so far are incredible in comparison to both the 071 and 072 releases. They fixed just about every single issue we had complained about.

Hello again Joe,

Yes, we knew better than to set it up in the Device User Database. We do have them start by selecting the "Copy Icon" but the screen that comes up is, "Enter User ID" followed by the next screen which asks for the passcode. There are no passcodes. We never typed in a passcode because it is not asked for when you create a user in the User & Limits section.

 

This makes no sense at all. I have set this up many times and it worked fine. Something must be on (or off) somewhere and I just haven't found it yet. The four users we created are part of the XRX_DEF account which I frequently use unless they want a different account name for some reason.

 

I will be wearing wigs soon as this problem is making me tear my hear out.

Humor me and go to Properties > Login Permissions/Accounting > User Permissions and choose Edit for the User Permissions Roles and Edit for the Non-logged in User section and make sure it isn't set to restrict anyone from anything except the Tools section.

So, we are just going to have to ignore this part of your statement. I need to install SMB scanning in an office where there is no network

 

If they don't mind typing their password at the device they can just use the Address book instead. Do it like this:

Click on the highlighted Details and you can add the username to the share, but passwords can't be done (Address book doesn't encrypt data so the password would be visible to anyone)

 

 

Or, scan to Folder on the printer and each user has a personal folder and can just grab their scan from the device web interface.

 

Or, if they got it with the printer, scan to personal USB

 

So that is 3 ways to do it including one that works if the ignored "no network" statement is true (USB)

Hi Karol99,

Thank you for using the Support Forum. Have you adjusted the ring tone volume in the as noted in step 7 for the solution for configuring the fax settings? If this does not help you can use an external phone so that you can hear incoming fax calls.  Please consider contacting your support centre for further assistance.

Scanning documents to multiple PDF files

Hello,

 

I recently purchased a Xerox 6605DN and have it setup for SMB scanning. 

 

I would like to know how to scan documents into multiple PDF files. There is an option to split the documents into .jpeg files but not PDF files. Where can I make this setting? I looked around in the webgui but couldn't find it.

 

Right now the machine can split PDF files when scanning to email. I tried setting the max-document size to 50KB in hopes of it splitting each document into a PDF file but it didn't work.

 

Having to put one document and pressing scan 500 times if you have 500 documents becomes a real pain.

WorkCenter 3220 connected to local network, NetScan installed,

but to run it a user need administrative privileges all times after logon.

 

a question:  how can I scan without admin privileges?

You can't, you need admin rights to have the ability to grant authorization to a remote user (the printer) to login to your PC from an external source (the printer) and have full read/write permissions.

 

With a USB device this is not a requirement.

You can't, there are no devices that I know of that can do that.

 

JPG is not capable of multiple pages so it automatically does a file per page.

TIFF has 2 standards, single and multipage, so it can be made to do so.

PDF has no reason to do it so it doesn't, the email thing is to bypass SMTP server limitations, so if your email provider allows a 25MB attachment size, you set the printer to split it every 24-25MB and it will send a scan that would be 48MB into 2 files to allow transfer. But that scenario does not exist on Harddrives or FTP servers or SMB shares so it is not considered.

 

If you need single page pdf and only want to scan once, you could scan jpg, then run a converter to convert jpg to pdf.

Irfanview can do it with a free plugin.

Unable to fax- Error 034 791 and 035 718

I have checked my phone lines for my network 6505 printer/fax.  I call my fax number and it shows an incoming fax, but it will not allow a fax to go in/out with 034 791 or 035 718 error.  Please help

First off go to Machine Status > Tools > Admin Settings > System Settings > General > Audio and turn up the volume for the fax so you can hear its transmission and verify what is happening.

 

Fault Code 035-718: Target Fax is Not Answering Error 035-718 T1 Timeout, No Response from Sender Received. Job Canceled. Remote Device Will Try Again. (Caution Screen with [Close] Button) Message

 

Fault Code 034-791: No Answer Error 034-791 Check Line Connection. Please Disconnect and Reconnect Fax Line to Ensure Proper Connection. Job Canceled. (Caution Screen with [Close] Button)

 

If it happens to every number and not just one, the issue is either the fax line or the fax card. So unplug, replug, replace cable to eliminate the line before starting in on the hardware fax card.


Workcentre 6500 scan to email: how to disable pdf code function

When trying to scan to email on a Workcentre 6500, the printer asks for a PDF code (Enter code for PDF). Can someone tell me how to disable this option?

Thank you Joe! This in fact is what was causing the problem. I know I looked in that screen several times when I was troubleshooting the problem and it was set correctly. However, when I re-checked it (just to humor you) it was set to Non-Logged in Users restricted from making copies! I corrected this and now it works as the customer required.

 

On a side note: Because of this problem I have a deeper level of understanding about authentication. When the Non-Logged In Users were set to restrict access to making copies it only makes sense that a User ID and a Passcode would be required. When the customer only wanted to require an account code in order to make copies authentication is not required. As long as a walk-up user entered a valid accounting code access is granted.

Auto Rotating Scans on the Workcentre

I have documents that I want to scan to SMB and email that has some pages that are rotated 180 degrees (the document is Double Sided). I would like to be able to put them all in the feeder and when they are scanned auto rotate it to the correct orientaion so when the pdf is created all of the pages are correct, and I do not have to fix them using PDF or another outside program. 

Thanks for any ideas on how to make the unit do this.

You can't get the machine to do it, the machine has no idea where up is , any rotation will have to be done via software.

7855 Won't set Output Tray for faxes to left tray!

So I logged in as admin, and went to the output section and changed the location for faxes to the left tray, however faxes continue to print out on the right tray.  Firmware is: 072.040.004.09100.  Any ideas?
