Scan to network folder using FTP cannot enter password for user

$

I have setup a user to scan to a network folder in the address book and I have pasted it below.  I have it working but the only way I could enter the "password" for the user Scanner was actually on the machine itself and I could not find a way to do it using the web interface.  Is this the only way I can enter the password for the FTP server on the Xerox WorkCentre 5325?

This is a new device for us and the company that provided it said this is the way we had to scan to a network folder.  Create an address book entry with the FTP ip address along with the path and user name for authentication (see picture below) and then to actually input the password for that address book entry we had to enter it on the device itself and could not use the web interface.  We had to do this for each folder we wanted to scan too.  We have it working but I wanted to know if there was a better way.

Here are the software versions installed on the Xerox.

Configuration

SystemVersion 53.32.23
Controller ROMVersion 1.205.146
IOT ROMVersion 40.2.0
Finisher A ROMVersion 15.3.0
ADF ROMVersion 7.10.0
Fax ROMVersion 1.1.14
SJFIVersion 3.0.18
SSMIVersion 1.16.0

You need to enable the HTTPs option to be able to enter a password in the address book.

It is intentionally done so that the transfer is not done with no security (plaintext)

You may need to create a self signed certificate first

Once that is done, or if it already was, go ahead and enable the HTTPs

That worked great.  Thank you.  I knew there had to be a way.

I've seen cases where Office365 in the latest firmware 061.121.227.24300  may have issues.

I know it works on 061.121.227.03404 Hint, install this now if yours is not the same (You would need a technician to downgrade from the above)

But everything has to be right, even the time has to be within 3 minutes of actual time, best bet is to use NTP, and my suggestions are time.nist.gov and time.google.com because the odds are pretty good if Google and the Government are offline, you are to ;-)

Since I have no idea what the move entailed for you, the network settings should also be checked, because a Gateway and DNS server may have changed, neither makes any difference in the print scenario, but it sure does for scan, so give them a once over.

CWIS > Properties > Connectivity > Protocols > IP Internet Protocol

And now that we have the "Arghh, I can't believe it was so simple" stuff out of the way.

CWIS > Properties > Connectivity > Protocols > SMTP (Email)

If it is highlighted, then you need yours to be identical, the circled part is also important, the email address needs to match in 4 different places, which I will number in the sceenshots, obviously I am hiding the email we are using, because you need to use yours..

3.JPG

On to the next tab

4.JPG

And the next tab

5.JPG

And finally, the 4th email address location. CWIS > Properties > Services > Email > Setup > From Field > Edit

6.JPG

There is a very good chance this section will still show the gmail account, because it populates on its own on first setup, but doesn't change when you modify the SMTP settings

WorkCentre 6655 and 7535 Multiple Scan to file back to back - Error Remote directory lock failed

I am having issues with scanning to a directory.  We have WorkCenter 7535's and WorkCenter 6655's on the network.  Our scan directory is a file share on a Microsoft Server 2012 R2.  Multiple folders are set up in this file share for different sections, and each building has it's own domain account for scanning.  Most devices have no problems at all scanning to our scan directories.  Some of the printers scan the first couple of times perfectly fine, then receive an error "Remote Directory lock failed".  Once that error is recieved, each scan after fails with the error "Login failure.  Check user password, and\or setups.".

This only happens on some of the printers, and it only happens after multiple scans back to back are attempted.  Multiple printers in multiple sections and multiple buildings experience this issue, while sometimes a printer 50 feet away has no issues at all.  If a printer will scan twice before it fails, it will always fails after 2 tries, if it failes after 5 tries, it will always get to 5 and then fail.  If you allow the printer to sit for a while and try to scan again, it will scan with no problems.

I have tried scanning to the point of failure and intentionaly tried scanning several more times trying to see if the domain scan account will lock out, It has never locked out, even though the error from the printer says it is a login error on all fails after the initial fail.

Here is what we have done so far:

1. Confirmed all like models are on the most recent\same firmware version.

2. Ensured "Append Device Domain" is left unchecked

3. Increased the DNS Connection Timeout to 15 seconds

4. Performed an On Demand Overwrite From the Control Panel

4. Confirmed that the share name and path is entered in the printer correctly

5. Confirmed the user credentials are entered correctly

6. Confirmed permissions are set on the share and folders correctly with full control

7. Enusred scanning via SMB using port 445

8. Confirmed time on network and printer is the same, Printer pulls time from NTP

9. Confirmed that there is more than sufficient space available on the share

If anyone has something on this issue, I would greatly appreciate any help.

Had the same problem storing multipage scans on a Synology NAS. Updating the Xerox printer to a newer version fixed it.

AltaLink Fax Build Job automatically

Is there any way to set faxes on the AltaLink models to default to build job.  I checked the Fax App settings, but build job was greyed out, even while logged in as admin.  Is there somewhere else I should look to enable this feature?

Depends on what Apple broke.

If you were using FTP, Apple removed that ability, now you will need a 3rd party FTP service.

If it was a simple SMB setup, it may have killed your share, or upgraded from SMBv1 to SMBv2 or 3. IN that case, a simple firmware update could resolve it.

And if it wasn't 10.13 that broke it, it was likely Security patch 2017-01, which again, caused by Apple, and the fix is here (Excerpt below)

If you experience issues with authenticating or connecting to file shares on your Mac after you install Security Update 2017-001 for macOS High Sierra 10.13.1, follow these steps to repair file sharing:

  1. Open the Terminal app, which is in the Utilities folder of your Applications folder.
  2. Type sudo /usr/libexec/configureLocalKDC and press Return.
  3. Enter your administrator password and press Return.
  4. Quit the Terminal app.

It is intentionally blocked from being a default, I have no idea why, but when you select it, it outright states it can't be done, so to get the feature you would need to request from Xerox officially to create a FER (Feature Enhancement Request). Which means you need to call and ask for it (we can't do it here) and there is no guarantee they will do so, it is just a request.

I will add, that I also just tried on the other platforms I have, which is Connectkey, VersaLink, FujiXerox, Discovery and none of them allow it either, which confirms it isn't a bug, it is definitely a "feature"

I also encountered a similar problem, but I did not find a solution. Now I use a PDF filler free program for editing the size of files.

hi joe

thanks for your reply.

i've managed to fix some but not all of the issue. i found that you can't edit a previously stored scan destination (which was ftp) and change it to smb, but i deleted all the ftp connections and created new smb connections for each of the updated macs.

what's now weird is that i can scan to one of the macs but not the others, even though they are setup the same. the only difference is the mac i can scan to is running 10.13.3 beta while the others are running 10.13.2. could that be it?

Thanks!  That has partially resolved the issue.  Before it would go a number of scans, then would get a Remote Directory lock failed, then every scan after that would get a login error.  Now more scan jobs go through before getting an error, and the only error given now is the login error.  Again, I tested scanning enough times after the first login error so that the network security would have locked out the account, but when I check on the account it is not locked out.

I can't possibly answer that as I don't have your setup.

But I can scan to 10.13.2 in the lab without issue after doing all I provided.

Now update the 6655 to the latest and use it to initiate the login failure with the Network trace running, then compare it to another 6655 that doesn't get locked out side by side in Wireshark. (This isn't a possibility in the 75XX)

That is done like this

Capture.JPG

Of course the update itself to the device may fix it. In which case the same may be said of the 75XX, which can be obtained here.

I'm at a bit of a loss, you really should not be attempting to setup Network logins if you do not have a network server to use, and if you do, you really should knows its network information. You are at that point looking to add an Active Directory Server.

Without you being able to know 100% what the right settings are, all you will achieve is losing the ability to log into the printer at all.
