I'd like to clarify and help you understand that the issues you are having are not related to a problem with the printer, but the way your server is setup.
You are not using an a set of account credentials to authenticate, and so the server
denies the printer from inheriting permissions.
This is the design of Windows LAN manager authentication, that if a non-workgroup/untrusted device or user wants access to a share for anything beyond guest permissions, the account must be authenticated. If no sufficient account exists, then authentication will fail. In this case, that means the scan will not be allowed to be transferred.
This is actually standard SMB functionality since Windows Vista.
Samba on a Linux server, would follow the same pattern.
